Layout comes before appliances
The mistake we see most is a beautiful island with nowhere to put a plate down. We plan landing space either side of the grill, a prep run, somewhere for a bin and enough counter for people to lean on with a drink, then fit the appliances into that.
We also point the working side of the island so the cook is facing the party rather than the fence.

- Outdoor-rated fridge, ice bin and storage drawers

Gas, power and water done right
Utilities are the part that has to be planned before the first block is laid. Gas runs are sized and pressure-tested, circuits are on GFCI in weatherproof enclosures, and any water line is run below frost and fitted with a shut-off and drain so it can be blown out before the first hard freeze.
Licensed trades handle the connections and everything is inspected where permits require it.
