What happens before the turf arrives
We strip out the existing weeds and debris, rip or till compacted subsoil so roots have somewhere to go, bring in and blend quality topsoil, then grade it smooth and pitched away from the house. Any irrigation goes in at this stage.
This is the part that decides whether you have a lawn in three years. Turf rolled straight onto compacted construction fill looks perfect for a month and then thins out and never recovers.
Laid the day it is cut
We order turf to arrive the morning we are installing. Rolls are laid in a staggered pattern with tight seams, cut cleanly around beds and hardscape, then rolled to press roots into contact with the soil and watered immediately.
Sod that sits stacked on a pallet in July heat is already stressed before it goes down, which is why the timing matters as much as the technique.
The first three weeks
You will get clear watering instructions and we will set the controller if we installed the irrigation. Broadly: keep it genuinely wet for the first two weeks, then start backing off frequency and watering longer to pull the roots down. First mow at around three weeks, blade high, sharp.
Follow that and the lawn knits in and is holding its own by the end of the season.
